How does the laser remove hair?
The laser emits a beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle. The energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, and then transformed into heat, which in turn, disables the follicle from growing new hair.
Is it permanent?
The FDA has approved the lasers used at INFINITY Laser Hair Removal for PERMANENT hair reduction. Once a hair follicle has been destroyed, it cannot grow back.
Are there any side effects?
Short-term side effects may include a slight reddening of the skin or local swelling which typically lasts less than an hour, although infrequently last a few days. Most clients resume normal activity after their treatments. Occasionally, a slight rash may occur on body parts that are difficult to wash (i.e. men’s backs). In very rare instances, some blistering and discoloration of the skin may occur which are usually only temporary.
Who is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal?
The ideal candidate has dark hair and light skin. Dark hairs absorb more of the laser light and lighter skin allows more transmission of the laser light into the follicle. We do safely treat darker skin tones and tanned skin; however, the treatments are most effective when you are your natural skin tone. Unfortunately blonde, gray and light red hairs respond least to the laser treatments and at this time electrolysis would be the best permanent alternative.

Can you do laser hair removal anywhere on the body?
We can do laser hair removal just about anywhere on the body. The most common areas for women are the upper lip, chin, underarms and bikini line. Men desire hair removal on the back, shoulders, chest and back of neck. We do arms, legs, toes, ears and more! We can treat any area with the exception of the areas around the eyes.
Why does it take more than one treatment?
Hair grows in cycles. The laser only disables the hair in the active stage of growth at the time of treatment. It does, however, affect the hairs in the early and late stages. The hairs that return are those that were not in the active stage of growth at the time of treatment. They appear lighter in color and finer in texture. You will see good results after just one treatment, but additional treatments are necessary to have complete clearance of hair.
How many treatments are needed?
Because the laser can only permanently disable the hair follicle in the active growth cycle, and not all hairs are in this part of the cycle at any one time, most clients require 4-8 treatments to achieve permanent reduction of hair. Fewer treatments are needed if your goal is to reduce the number of hairs as well as the coarseness of the remaining hair. In hormonally induced areas (i.e. women’s facial) usually 5-10 treatments will be required.
Is the laser treatment painful?
Most clients describe the treatment feeling like a series of pinpricks to the skin or snapping of a rubber band, which last only a short time during the treatment. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Most clients tolerate the treatments very well. For sensitive clients, a topical anesthetic cream is available for purchase at our office and must be applied up to one hour prior to the treatment.
How long will it take?
Since the laser treats many hairs at a time, facial areas can be treated in just minutes. Smaller body areas take less than a half hour; larger body areas usually take an hour or so.
What are the pre-treatment restrictions?
All clients considering laser hair removal should avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for four to six weeks prior to your treatments. The hair to be treated should be cleaned and shaved to be most effective. Therefore, you should shave within 24 hours prior to treatment. For optimum results, avoid tweezing or waxing the hairs for a minimum of three to six weeks prior to the treatment, depending on the area being treated. The use of sunless tanning cream should be ceased 5 days prior to your treatment. Pregnant women should consult with their OB/GYN before proceeding with laser hair removal services.
